Having launched his popular blog ribbonfarm.com in 2007 (now also via Substack), Venkatesh Rao writes big-picture tech- and media-aware analysis that’s an indispensable orientation tool for anyone modeling how our perception of the world is changing. While we initially invited Rao to speak with New Models about a growing sense of narrative entropy (what he calls “unnaratability”) and reflections on his experimental research program, Summer of Protocols, we ended up mostly discussing crypto, particularly Ethereum, and what its persistence beyond the 2023 downturn reveals about how the most powerful and deep pocketed entities are envisioning the future.
